Valley of Strength Psychiatry was inspired by Psalm 23 and created from a desire and conviction to provide a different kind of mental health experience where patients feel heard, understood, and valued.

Valley of Strength Psychiatry is founded on the belief that true healing begins with Christ. Our practice exists to reflect God’s compassion, grace, and truth through thoughtful, patient-centered psychiatric care.
We believe every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. By providing time and space to share your story, we seek to offer care that addresses the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Meet Your Care Team
Valley of Strength Psychiatry was founded by Melanie with a simple goal: to bring time and connection back into mental health care.
With a heart for service, Melanie strives to create a space where patients feel heard, questions are encouraged, and treatment is tailored to the whole person. Through evidenced-based care rooted in Christian values, she helps equip patients with knowledge to understand their diagnosis and find strength in their journey.
Melanie Kijowski is a board-certified physician assistant, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She remains committed to continued learning and professional development to provide thoughtful, individualized care for each patient.
Outside of caring for patients, Melanie enjoys studying Scripture, spending time with her husband and puppy, and making homemade bread.
